On Saturday night, Traffic Police Inspector Amit Sahu, an additional officer-in-charge of the South Traffic Guard, was attacked while attempting to intervene in a fight near Malanch. Sahu was on his regular night patrol when he noticed a disturbance involving several local residents. Upon observing the situation, Sahu exited his vehicle to approach the scene and prevent further escalation.
Reports indicate that the altercation was between two or more local groups. As Sahu attempted to break up the fight, some individuals involved in the quarrel turned aggressive toward him. They questioned the police presence and escalated the conflict by physically assaulting Sahu. The situation quickly became chaotic, with the inspector being beaten by the group involved in the disturbance. Despite his attempts to calm the situation, he was overpowered and injured.
The attack prompted other officers to respond to the scene. They managed to secure Sahu and remove him from the immediate danger. He was taken to SSKM Hospital for medical treatment, where he was attended to in the trauma ward. Sahu sustained injuries during the assault but is currently in stable condition. A formal complaint has been lodged at Regent Park police station, and an investigation is underway. No arrests have been made yet, and authorities are working to identify the individuals responsible for the assault.
